Daily Tax Report — July 31, 2026
Subtitle
Fresh slate. Same discipline. Two numbers earned their way onto tonight’s card.
Yesterday was painful, but today’s bets are not repayment for yesterday’s losses. We reset the board, evaluated the available prices, and separated attractive teams from attractive wagers.
Current lines as of 5:05 p.m. ET. Odds can move—confirm before placing any wager.
Official Play No. 1
Tampa Bay Rays Moneyline — -136 at FanDuel
1 unit
Playable through: -145
Pass at: -150 or higher
Tampa Bay starts Nick Martinez, who enters at 10-2 with a 2.45 ERA. The Rays’ bullpen has also produced a 2.10 ERA since the All-Star break, while Tampa Bay owns an MLB-best 40-16 home record. Chicago counters with Erick Fedde, and the White Sox offense has scored two runs or fewer four times during its last nine games.
We are laying reasonable—not excessive—juice behind the stronger starter, stronger bullpen, and best home team in baseball.
Official wager: Rays ML -136, 1 unit
Official Play No. 2
Dallas Wings -2.5 — -113 at DraftKings
1 unit
Playable through: -3 at -115
Pass if: the spread reaches -4
Dallas has won eight consecutive games when favored, and the Wings already defeated Washington 92-69 in their first meeting. Washington is playing better and enters on a three-game winning streak, but Dallas still owns the more balanced offense and a significant advantage creating points from turnovers.
The distinction here is the number. Dallas -2.5 is playable. Dallas -4 is not the same wager.
Official wager: Wings -2.5 -113, 1 unit
Player Prop Lean
Paul Skenes Over 7.5 Strikeouts
The best widely reported price I found was approximately -126, although FanDuel was dealing a considerably worse -146. Skenes carries a 2.71 FIP and 1.061 WHIP, while Cincinnati ranks near the bottom of MLB in strikeout rate, hit rate, and on-base percentage.
Playable at: -130 or better
Pass at FanDuel’s reported -146
This is precisely why shopping matters. The same prediction can be a reasonable wager at -126 and a poor purchase at -146.
Status: Lean only until the price is personally verified.
Games We Considered but Passed
Pirates–Reds
Pittsburgh was available around -130 at BetMGM behind Skenes. That is reasonable, but Pittsburgh’s persistent run-support problems make the strikeout market more appealing than asking its offense and bullpen to complete the job.
Seattle–Atlanta
Atlanta is favored by roughly 12.5 points, with the total ranging from 176.5 to 178.5. Seattle has lost seven straight, but laying nearly 13 points in the WNBA creates too much late-game variance.
Royals–Rockies
Kansas City was available around -110 at BetMGM behind Michael Wacha. The pitching matchup is attractive, but trusting that bullpen at Coors one night after its ninth-inning collapse is unnecessary when stronger opportunities exist.
Golf and soccer
Plenty of action exists tonight, including MLS, the Rocket Classic, and the AIG Women’s Open. We did not find a verified price-and-matchup combination strong enough to add merely for variety.
Square Tip of the Day
A good opinion at a bad price is a bad wager.
Skenes over 7.5 strikeouts illustrates it perfectly. At -126, there may be value. At -146, the sportsbook is collecting too much tax for the same outcome.
We bet numbers—not names.
