This one did not follow the expected script. Chase Burns entered with a 12-1 record and a 2.42 ERA, but Cleveland reached him, (helped by an error that allowed 4 unearned runs)and produced far more offense than anticipated. Cincinnati battled back and had the game tied 5-5 entering the late innings, but Cleveland pushed across the deciding run.
The handicap was built around Burns controlling a struggling Cleveland offense. That did not happen. No excuses—we record the loss and move forward.

Houston sends Peter Lambert to the mound against Reid Detmers. Lambert enters 8-5 with a 3.03 ERA, while Detmers is 3-7 with a 4.05 ERA. Houston is also coming off a 6-4 comeback win in the series opener and owns the stronger overall lineup in this matchup.
The market has this game priced close to a coin flip, with published prices ranging from Houston -108 at FanDuel to -111 at DraftKings and -110 at BetMGM. At that number, I believe Houston should be the more meaningful favorite.
The Angels can absolutely hit Detmers—or rather, Houston’s Lambert can get hit; this isn’t a mismatch. But at nearly even money, Houston’s starter, lineup depth, and overall team quality give us enough value to make it official.
Games We’re Passing
Milwaukee was considered against San Francisco, but the available price around -146 is no bargain, and I don’t want to chase today’s loss by laying another substantial favorite.
San Diego has the clearest pitching mismatch against Colorado, but the Padres are priced around -190 to -202. That is too expensive for tonight’s card.
