Milwaukee Brewers at San Diego Padres

This is the best combination of matchup, pitcher profile and price on Monday's board.

Henderson enters tonight 6–1 with a 2.70 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 62 strikeouts through 10 appearances. More importantly for this market, his strikeout rate has been north of 30%, and the underlying swing-and-miss profile supports what we're seeing rather than screaming regression.

The number is 5.5.

That's important.

We're not being asked to lay -160 or -180 for six strikeouts. ScoresAndOdds was showing Over 5.5 at +104 among the available prices when this report was prepared. Earlier Monday, FanDuel had the same 5.5 strikeout threshold at +112.

Henderson is averaging 6.2 strikeouts per appearance, while independent analysis also has his current strikeout rate around 32% and his SIERA among the best on tonight's slate.

San Diego's offense has been better lately, and that is the risk. The Padres just hit four home runs in Sunday's win over Houston, so this is not a bet against a dead lineup.

But Henderson does not need San Diego to be bad.

He needs six punchouts.

At plus money, that's enough edge to make the board.

Once we're laying materially more than that, much of the value disappears.

Milwaukee is 74–44 and gets Henderson against Casey Mize. Henderson has allowed two earned runs or fewer in nine of his 10 starts this season, while Mize is trying to rebound from a rough first start after joining San Diego.

The Brewers also own one of baseball's stronger pitching staffs and enter after a 5–2 homestand.

The reason this stays a lean: San Diego is home, fighting for a playoff position, its offense just showed life, and the Padres bullpen has been excellent lately. I'm not interested in turning every favorable matchup into an Official Play.

ScoresAndOdds had Milwaukee available around -112 to -115, with 63% of tickets but 77% of money on the Brewers.

Tarik Skubal against Kansas City gives Los Angeles the largest raw starting-pitching mismatch on the board.

But we're not laying approximately -270 on a baseball moneyline. That's exactly how bettors pay the Square Tax.

The alternative is the run line, where Los Angeles -1.5 was available as cheaply as -117 across the books shown by ScoresAndOdds.

Kansas City starter Noah Cameron carries a 4.37 ERA, while the Dodgers average roughly five runs per game.

Still, the Dodgers have been going through a rough stretch and the market is overwhelmingly on Los Angeles. That's enough to keep this below Official Play status.

This is precisely why we changed the process.

Tampa Bay has won six straight and owns a 71–46 record. The Athletics are 47–71.

It looks easy.

And everybody sees it.

Approximately 87% of tickets and 93% of the money are showing on Tampa Bay with the moneyline around -155.

Great team. Great run.

Bad reason to pay an inflated number.

Pass.

Atlanta opened around -11.5 against Toronto and was pushed as high as -15.5. The total also jumped from approximately 183.5 to 187.5. Whatever value existed early has already been taxed heavily.

Chicago-Seattle gives us two struggling teams and no number strong enough to justify manufacturing action.

Pass on the WNBA tonight.

Sunday gave us a 2–0 day.

That doesn't mean Monday needs two plays.

It doesn't mean Monday needs three.

One number earned our money.
