We come into the Saturday night slate in a good position:

That Lean record now includes Houston +7.5 and New York Liberty +6.5, both of which cashed Friday night. New York actually won outright, 93–81.

The goal tonight is not to spray the board. We’ve got two games that made the Official card and two more that stay below the line.

This is the strongest position on the night board.

The matchup starts with Virginia’s ability to create explosive passes against a West Virginia secondary that has already been giving them up at a high rate. West Virginia has allowed 22 completions of 10+ yards through two games, including eight of 20+ yards, while Virginia has been among the better teams in the country creating explosive pass plays.

That is exactly the type of matchup we want when laying double digits.

Virginia also brings a defense good enough to keep West Virginia from simply trading touchdowns all night.

If this climbs beyond that, don’t chase blindly.

This one got more attractive once we got clarity on the quarterback situation.

Sam Leavitt has been removed from the SEC availability report and is expected to start tonight.

The real reason we’re backing LSU, though, is the defense.

LSU ranks among the national leaders in havoc rate and has been excellent against both the pass and the run. Ole Miss has not created nearly the same level of disruption defensively.

This is also exactly why the number matters.

Your board still had LSU -2.5 available while some books had already moved to -3.

That half-point matters.

Take the -2.5 if you have it.

At -3, still playable.

At -3.5, I would stop and reassess rather than chase.

This is very close to becoming an Official, but I’m keeping it one level down.

Virginia Tech’s defensive front has been ridiculous through two games: 12 sacks and 32 tackles for loss, both elite production. Ethan Grunkemeyer has also been steady, throwing four touchdowns without an interception.

The -2.5 is valuable because other books are showing -3 and even -3.5.

This is a trenches play.

Both offensive lines have legitimate questions, and Auburn in particular rebuilt its entire offensive line from last season. Florida’s defense has been strong, while Auburn has not shown that it needs to play shootouts to win games.

If you have 53.5, that’s the number I want.

At 52.5, I like it less.
