THE DAILY TAX REPORT
Saturday, September 5, 2026 — Late Edition
The early window has been rough. Indiana failed to cover, and several other positions were in trouble late. Oregon, one of the early Official Plays, trails Boise State by 10 at halftime as this edition goes out.
That does not change the process for tonight.
No chasing. No adding plays because the afternoon went badly. The late card was handicapped independently, and only the positions that earned their way onto the board are being released.

California +2.5 vs UCLA
This has remained one of the strongest positions on our board all day.
UCLA enters the season with another new coaching staff and a new offensive system, while Cal has greater continuity at the most important position on the field with quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele.
UCLA has talent, particularly with Nico Iamaleava, but asking a road favorite going through significant transition to win by a field goal or more is a different proposition.
The market is still giving us Cal +2.5, and that is the number we wanted this morning. Current market screens continue to show UCLA -2.5/Cal +2.5.

🟡 STRONG LEAN
UNLV -3 at Hawaii
We liked UNLV earlier at -3.5.
Getting -3 instead is meaningful.
This is an early conference game between two teams coming off opening losses, and UNLV owns enough matchup advantages to justify laying the field goal. The improvement from -3.5 to -3 also removes the hook around one of football’s most important numbers.
Action Network +1
I considered upgrading this to Official, but the trip to Hawaii and the uncertainty that accompanies an opening-week conference matchup keep it one notch below.
Strong Lean: UNLV -3
🟡 LEAN
LSU -10 vs Clemson
The market gave us a better number than the -10.5 we were discussing earlier.
LSU has the higher ceiling and the home-field advantage in Baton Rouge, while Clemson is starting Christopher Vizzina at quarterback in a difficult environment.
But LSU has plenty of new pieces of its own, including a new quarterback/offensive combination, and Clemson’s defense is good enough to make laying double digits uncomfortable. Current independent handicaps are split between LSU laying the number and a lower-scoring game.

Lean: LSU -10
PASSES
Clemson–LSU Under 49.5
We were more interested at 50.5 or 51.
The market took away the better number. Even though the matchup still points toward a potentially lower-scoring game, we are not chasing a total after losing value.
Pass at 49.5.
UNLV–Hawaii 55.5
This total has already fallen substantially from where we first tracked it.
There may still be an Under case, but we would rather own UNLV -3 than follow the market down on a total that has already moved several points.
Pass.

That is it.
After a difficult afternoon, the easiest mistake would be doubling the number of bets tonight and trying to manufacture a comeback.
We aren’t doing it.
One of the central lessons in Stop Betting the Logo is simple:
Volume should follow opportunity. Opportunity should never be invented to satisfy volume.
Tonight gives us three positions we can defend. We do not need six.
