Sunday Night Football Edition

LOS ANGELES RAMS AT DENVER BRONCOS

Kickoff: 8:20 PM ET

The Square Tax returns for Sunday Night Football with a matchup that presents an intriguing opportunity to back a home underdog.

Both teams enter at 1–1, but the circumstances surrounding tonight's game favor a closer examination of Denver.

OFFICIAL PLAY — DENVER BRONCOS +1.5

Playable at +1.5, -110 or better.

We're taking the Broncos at home.

Los Angeles enters tonight on a short week after playing Monday night, and now must travel to Denver's altitude to face one of the league's more challenging defensive fronts.

The biggest matchup question is how consistently Matthew Stafford can operate against Denver's pass rush.

Stafford is dangerous when given time to work through his progressions. Denver's opportunity is to disrupt that timing, force quicker decisions and prevent the Rams from consistently generating explosive plays.

The Puka Nacua factor

The Rams will be without Puka Nacua, who missed practice throughout the week with a hip/groin injury.

That's a significant loss for Stafford. Davante Adams remains an outstanding receiving option, but removing Nacua allows Denver to direct additional attention toward Adams and challenge the Rams' other receiving options to contribute.

Los Angeles can still establish offense through Kyren Williams, Blake Corum and its tight ends. We cannot assume the Rams' offense disappears simply because Nacua is unavailable.

Nevertheless, his absence matters against this particular defense.

Denver's offensive approach

Bo Nix doesn't need to win a shootout for this wager to cash.

We want Denver to establish balance, protect the football and prevent the Rams' defensive front from turning this into a succession of obvious passing situations.

The Broncos will be without RJ Harvey and Marvin Mims Jr., reducing some of their offensive versatility. J.K. Dobbins becomes particularly important to maintaining an effective rushing attack.

Sean Payton must keep Denver ahead of schedule and create manageable opportunities for Nix.

Market assessment

Denver opened as a larger home underdog, with the market subsequently moving toward the Broncos.

At the available +1.5, we're getting a little protection in a matchup where we believe Denver has a legitimate opportunity to win outright.

We're not interested in taking Denver simply because of the location. The combination of defensive pressure, the Rams' receiving injuries, home-field conditions and a short preparation week creates the handicap.

OFFICIAL PLAY: DENVER BRONCOS +1.5 (-110)

Playable at +1.5, -110 or better. Do not substitute Denver -1.5 if the market flips.

SUNDAY NIGHT LEAN — UNDER 44.5

We're also interested in a lower-scoring game, although the total doesn't carry the same conviction as our Denver side.

Denver's pass rush could disrupt Stafford's timing, particularly without Nacua.

On the other side, the Rams possess a defensive front capable of creating problems for Bo Nix. Denver's offensive personnel absences could also limit its ability to generate explosive plays.

The expected script involves longer possessions, an emphasis on establishing the run and both offenses having to work for their points.

The biggest threat to the Under is turnovers creating short fields or either team's rushing attack producing explosive gains.

We're not releasing this as a second Official Play merely because it supports the general direction of our Denver handicap.

LEAN: UNDER 44.5

Prefer 44.5 or better.
