We passed on the early baseball board today rather than manufacture action, and after watching the market all day, tonight’s card is centered exactly where we expected it to be:

Detroit at Buffalo.

We spent the morning working both sides of this matchup. Detroit is a legitimate football team. Dan Campbell will stay aggressive, Jahmyr Gibbs can change a game on one touch, and the Lions have enough offensive weapons to punish Buffalo if this turns into a shootout.

But after weighing all of it, we still come back to Buffalo.

Josh Allen looked like exactly what makes him so dangerous in Week 1. Against a Houston defense that has given Buffalo problems in the past, Allen threw for 334 yards and Buffalo scored 36 points.

Now Detroit comes to Buffalo on a short week with issues on the offensive line, including Christian Mahogany and Blake Miller ruled out. That matters when Jared Goff is being asked to operate on the road against a defense that can create pressure. Buffalo also gets the emotion of its first regular-season game in the new Highmark Stadium.

Detroit absolutely has enough offense to hang around. We are not treating them like a bad team.

We’re simply laying the points with the quarterback and situation we trust more.

Play to: -6

At -6.5, reassess. Don’t blindly chase.

This is a big NFL total.

We know that.

But there’s a reason the market is asking us to clear the mid-50s.

Buffalo’s Week 1 game produced 67 points. Detroit’s produced 61. Across the league, Week 1 scoring was exceptionally high, and these two offenses were part of it for legitimate reasons rather than fluky defensive touchdowns or bizarre special-teams scoring.

Detroit can contribute here even if Buffalo controls the game. Gibbs can create explosives, Goff has legitimate weapons, and Campbell’s aggressiveness on fourth downs gives Detroit additional opportunities to keep drives alive.

On the other side, Detroit’s secondary and offensive-line issues create exactly the kind of game environment where Buffalo can get into the 30s.

We don’t need 70.

31-24 gets us home.
34-24 gets us home.
31-27 gets us home.

Play to: 55

At 56 or higher, I’d pass rather than chase.

This is the prop I like enough to put on the official ledger.

Allen threw for 334 yards on only 29 attempts against Houston last week. Tonight he gets a Detroit defense that allowed New Orleans to produce 378 passing yards, and the Lions had clear problems defending the tight end and intermediate areas of the field.

That matters because Buffalo has increasingly leaned into personnel packages featuring multiple tight ends, with Dalton Kincaid emerging as another dangerous target alongside the wideouts. Detroit has to account for Allen’s legs, which further stresses coverage.

The game script works too.

If Detroit scores — which is exactly what our Over position assumes — Buffalo doesn’t get to shut the offense down and bleed the clock. Allen keeps throwing.

The market is currently dealing 253.5 passing yards, and there is substantial betting interest on the Over at that number.

The WNBA is finally back, but I’m not forcing an Official Play simply because we have games again.

Dallas -8.5 vs. Los Angeles — LEAN

Dallas is the WNBA side I like most from tonight’s board, but coming out of the long break introduces enough uncertainty that -8.5 is too much for me to add it to an already three-play card.

The rest of tonight’s WNBA board is a Pass.

The market moved Pittsburgh out toward -10.5, and we missed the more attractive earlier number.

That’s enough for me.
