Football is officially back.

The early baseball board did not give us an Official Play, so we passed. That is exactly what the process is supposed to look like.

Now we turn to tonight’s college football slate.

Play to: -28

This is the cleanest matchup edge on tonight’s board.

UAB enters the season almost completely rebuilt. Only two offensive starters return, and zero defensive starters return from a unit that allowed an alarming 3.72 points per drive last season. The offensive line also has very little FBS starting experience outside the interior.

Illinois is not without turnover of its own, but the Illini are far more stable structurally. Katin Houser gives them an experienced quarterback, the run game remains intact, and Bret Bielema has consistently shown a willingness to put inferior nonconference opponents away rather than merely nurse a lead. Illinois is 5-2-1 ATS against non-Power opponents since 2022.

This is a massive number, but the matchup justifies it.

Your initial instinct on Colorado has gotten meaningful market confirmation.

Georgia Tech opened around -7, yet despite the Yellow Jackets attracting roughly 77% of spread tickets at DraftKings, the number moved the opposite way to -6.5. At Circa, Colorado was drawing a larger share of dollars than tickets. That is classic reverse-line movement toward the unpopular underdog.

There are legitimate matchup concerns. Georgia Tech should test a completely rebuilt Colorado defense with Justice Haynes and a physical run game, while Colorado is replacing virtually everybody defensively. Georgia Tech also retains more defensive continuity.

But Georgia Tech has major changes of its own at quarterback and offensive coordinator, while Colorado introduces Brennan Marion’s Go-Go offense and a talented new receiving group around Julian Lewis.

So the market is telling us something important:

Public on Georgia Tech. Number moving toward Colorado.

That does not make Colorado automatic, but it strengthens your original read considerably.

Classification: Strong Lean — Colorado +6.5
Upgrade point: +7 or better

I would not chase this below +6.5.

This is an interesting one because the total has already gone on a round trip.

It opened around 54.5-55.5, dropped as low as 51.5, and then attracted enough Over money to climb back to roughly 53.5 today. At Circa, a relatively small share of tickets was responsible for a much larger share of Over dollars, which is notable.

UMass should be meaningfully more competent offensively after adding FBS-level portal talent, including quarterback Pop Watson, while Rutgers completely rebuilt a defense that struggled badly last season.

The downside is obvious: we missed the best number.

At 51.5 I would have liked this considerably more.

At 53.5, it stays a Strong Lean rather than becoming Official.

Classification: Strong Lean — Over 53.5

This is the other side of the sharp-market story.

Rutgers opened around -30.5 and attracted the majority of public tickets, yet the line fell toward -28.5/-29.5. Circa was showing extremely heavy money on UMass relative to its ticket count.

That deserves attention.

The issue is that UMass was historically bad last year and we still have not seen this rebuilt roster play together.

Classification: Lean — UMass +29.5

The market has shown some sharper support toward the Under, and the total has dropped from an opener around 53.5. Both teams have new quarterbacks and significant offensive-transition variables.

I prefer Colorado plus the points to the total, but the Under is worth noting.

Classification: Lean — Under 51.5

Nothing on the late baseball board clears our Official Play threshold tonight.

After the lesson earlier this week, we are not looking for baseball action simply because the games exist.

Football gives us the stronger edges.
