Tonight’s baseball board didn’t need to be complicated.

There are some heavy favorites on the board, a couple interesting dogs, and a few prices that simply aren’t worth paying. After going through the remaining slate, there’s one game we’re willing to make official.

Play to: -140
Target: -130 or better

This is a starting-pitching play first.

Milwaukee sends out Logan Henderson, who enters at 10-3 with a 2.34 ERA. Pittsburgh counters with Jared Jones, who sits at 4-6 with a 4.10 ERA.

That’s a meaningful edge before we even get into the rest of the matchup.

Henderson has also been reliable in this exact role. Milwaukee has consistently put him in favorable spots when he takes the mound, and the Brewers have been the better club over the full season.

The only reason this wasn’t an automatic play earlier was the situational angle: Milwaukee clinched the division last night, so there was legitimate concern about rest, lineup quality, and whether this might turn into a celebration-hangover game.

After checking the projected lineup and the number, we’re still comfortable backing Milwaukee.

The key is the price.

We are not interested in chasing this if it runs away. At -130-ish, there is enough value in the pitching advantage to make the Brewers the play.

There are favorites on tonight’s board with stronger raw win probability, but the market is charging for it.

The Dodgers and Phillies both have attractive pitching setups, but laying close to -200 is a different proposition entirely. We’re not paying a premium simply because the matchup looks good on paper.

Kansas City was also interesting as an underdog, but not enough to move from lean territory into an Official Play.

That leaves us with one position tonight.

And that’s fine.

One good bet is better than four mediocre ones.
