NFL football is finally here.

Before we get there, one quick piece of bookkeeping from Tuesday: Milwaukee won 4–3 in 10 innings, but our Brewers -1.5 Official Play did not cash. That’s also the second straight meeting in which the Cubs were able to keep up with Jacob Misiorowski. We’ll remember that the next time this matchup comes around rather than automatically asking Milwaukee to win by multiple runs.

Now we turn the page.

Tonight brings a selective MLB board and, more importantly, the first NFL game of the 2026 season.

We’re going right back to Milwaukee — but not on the run line.

That distinction matters.

Tonight Milwaukee sends Logan Henderson, who enters 9–3 with a 2.48 ERA, against Kevin Gausman, who is 9–11 with a 4.38 ERA. The Brewers are 90–56 and remain one of baseball’s strongest teams.

The market has Milwaukee around -120 to -135, which is a very different proposition from laying close to -200 or demanding a two-run victory.

Yesterday the team handicap was right.

The pricing method was wrong.

Tonight we simplify it.

We need them to win the game. Nothing more.

Colorado sends Tomoyuki Sugano, carrying a 5.19 ERA, against Will Warren and the Yankees.

Colorado enters at 55–89, while New York is 82–62, and this is exactly the kind of September mismatch where we want to pay attention to roster quality, motivation and whether the weaker club is already experimenting with younger players.

The Yankees moneyline is north of -230, which is too expensive.

The run line is the only way I’d attack it.

The Dodgers have another substantial starting-pitching advantage.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto enters 12–8 with a 2.67 ERA, while Cincinnati counters with Rhett Lowder at 6–9 with a 5.43 ERA.

Los Angeles is approximately -270 to -295 on the moneyline.

Absolutely not.

If we play it, we make the Dodgers earn the premium.

This is the game we spent the most time on today.

And there is a reason.

Seattle is the defending champion. Seattle is at home. Seattle beat New England convincingly in the Super Bowl.

Yet the Seahawks are only laying 3.5 points.

That number deserves attention.

But we are not betting New England simply because the spread “looks funny.” The matchup gives us legitimate reasons to take the points.

Drake Maye gives the Patriots the most important thing an underdog needs against an elite defense:

a quarterback capable of creating when the original play breaks down.

Seattle is going to generate pressure. We expect that.

The question is whether New England can survive it without turning the football over and giving Seattle short fields.

Maye’s ability to extend plays gives us a chance.

The Patriots will be without TreVeyon Henderson, who is out with an ankle injury, and backup offensive lineman Ben Brown is also out. That hurts New England’s offensive depth and means the Patriots cannot simply expect everything to go smoothly on offense.

But that is already part of the price.

There is plenty to respect.

Seattle owns one of football’s best defensive structures, plays at home in one of the league’s toughest environments and has already proven it can frustrate this New England offense.

That is why this is not some automatic Patriots play.

But Seattle has its own personnel issues.

Starting safety Ty Okada is out, while fellow safety Nick Emmanwori is questionable after offseason ankle surgery. Seattle entered the week with only three safeties on the 53-man roster, meaning its depth on the back end could be tested tonight.

That matters against a quarterback willing to attack downfield when coverage breaks.

This is ultimately where the bet gets made.

We are not taking New England +1.

We are not taking New England +2.

We are getting more than a field goal.

Three remains the most important key number in NFL point-spread betting.

That half-point between +3 and +3.5 can turn a loss into a win.

Our expectation is that Seattle can absolutely win this football game.

We just don't believe Seattle should automatically be trusted to win it by four or more.

If this turns into the competitive, defense-driven opener we expect, +3.5 gives us the number we want.

Preferred number: +3.5

+3: still playable, but clearly weaker.

+2.5: Pass. We are not giving away the key number.

This is the first NFL Official Play of the season.

We are taking the points.

Both defenses should have stretches where they control this game.

New England losing Henderson removes one explosive offensive piece, while Seattle's offense has enough questions that we don't automatically expect a shootout.

But Seattle’s secondary injuries create enough uncertainty that we are keeping the total below Official status.

Tonight is only the beginning.

We are continuing to track numbers across Sunday’s board, particularly positions where we already established a play-to price.

That means we will not wait until Sunday morning and voluntarily accept a worse spread if the market gives Tax Code members the better number earlier in the week.

The number matters.

Tonight, that number is +3.5.

Football betting is not simply picking the team you think will win.
