Monday night brings an intriguing NFL matchup between Washington and San Francisco, along with a potential series-clinching Game 6 in the American League Championship Series.
There's plenty to evaluate, but not every game presents a betting opportunity worth pursuing.
MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
Washington Commanders at San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco -7.5 | Total 51.5
Kickoff: 8:15 PM ET
San Francisco enters this matchup undefeated, with Brock Purdy directing one of the league's most productive offenses.
Christian McCaffrey remains a dangerous weapon, and Kyle Shanahan's offensive system creates difficult matchups for opposing defenses.
Washington, meanwhile, arrives with questions surrounding its consistency, but quarterback Jayden Daniels makes the Commanders difficult to dismiss.
Daniels' ability to escape pressure, extend drives, and produce explosive runs gives Washington a chance to remain competitive even when San Francisco controls stretches of the game.
The Spread
The 49ers are capable of winning comfortably, but laying more than a touchdown introduces additional risk.
Washington doesn't necessarily need to play a complete football game to stay within the number. A handful of explosive plays and sustained possessions could make this a much closer contest than the teams' records suggest.
The Total
At 51.5 points, the market anticipates significant offensive production.
San Francisco has the weapons to contribute heavily to that number, but Washington's ability to consistently move the football against the 49ers remains an important question.
Daniels' mobility introduces another variable that makes this total difficult to handicap with sufficient confidence.
Our Assessment: PASS
We see legitimate arguments on both sides of the spread and total, but neither presents a clear enough edge to justify a recommendation.
Sometimes the disciplined decision is to stay off the game.
MLB PLAYOFF WATCH
ALCS Game 6 — Cleveland Guardians at Tampa Bay Rays
First Pitch: 8:08 PM ET
Tampa Bay has an opportunity to close out the American League Championship Series at home tonight.
Cleveland faces an elimination game with a pitching staff that has been forced into considerable bullpen work over the previous two contests.
That creates an intriguing tactical matchup, particularly if the Guardians are forced to rely on multiple relief pitchers again.
Tampa Bay's ability to take advantage of Cleveland's pitching depth could be a deciding factor.
