One targeted afternoon position before tonight's full slate

Preview: Rather than forcing multiple afternoon bets, today's early card features one official play and one lean. There were several playable angles, but only one met our threshold for the public ledger.

🟢 Official Play

Chicago Cubs Moneyline (-108)

Why we like it:

This isn't about fading the Dodgers because they're the Dodgers. It's about recognizing when the market is slow to adjust.

Los Angeles has not been playing good baseball. They've struggled to score consistently, they've dropped several straight games, and they managed just one run again yesterday. Good teams go through slumps, but until they show signs of breaking out, we're not interested in paying a premium to back them.

Chicago gives us the hotter club, a quality starting pitching matchup, and a price that actually improved from this morning. We originally liked the Cubs at -118. Getting -108 only strengthens the value.

Sometimes the best bet isn't finding a great team—it's identifying when the market is still pricing a struggling team like it's playing its best baseball.

Official Play: 1 Unit

🟡 Lean

Jameson Taillon Over 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed

This was our favorite prop on the morning board.

The only reason it isn't an official play is because we were unable to confirm the current market price before publication. If the number drifted significantly, we aren't interested in chasing it.

The matchup still favors Houston's offense, but discipline means betting good numbers—not just good opinions.

🔴 Pass

Rays First Five (-154)

We like Tampa Bay in the matchup.

We don't like laying -154.

There is a difference.

Bankroll Reminder

Every official play is 1 unit.

Winning bettors don't double their wagers after a good day.

Losing bettors don't chase after a bad one.

The bankroll never knows whether yesterday was 3-0 or 0-3.

Treat every day the same.

💡 Today's Tax Tip

Don't confuse a good team with a good bet.

One of the biggest mistakes sports bettors make is assuming elite teams should always be backed.

Markets know who the good teams are.

Value comes from identifying when perception and current performance stop matching.

Yesterday reminded us of that lesson.
