Football leads the board. Four Official Plays made tonight's cut across NFL preseason, MLB and WNBA.
Tightened-System Record: 11–10
Last night finished 2–1:
🟢 Raiders -1.5 — WIN
🔴 Fever -2.5 — LOSS
🟢 Dream -8.5 — WIN
That moves the cleaned-up process to 11–10 entering Friday night.
NFL PRESEASON
🟢 OFFICIAL PLAY
Pittsburgh Steelers -1.5 vs. New York Jets
Updated line: Steelers -1.5
Total: 38.5
Moneyline: Pittsburgh -135 / New York +114
This is the most important market move on tonight's football board.
Pittsburgh went from the underdog side of this matchup earlier in the day to a 1.5-point favorite by our final check.
The personnel setup supports the move.
Pittsburgh is sitting Aaron Rodgers and Mason Rudolph and giving the entire quarterback workload to Will Howard and Drew Allar. Both played well in the preseason opener. Howard completed 7 of 9 passes for 86 yards, while Allar went 10 of 13 for 153 yards, threw two touchdowns and added another score on the ground. Both are competing for position on the depth chart, giving Pittsburgh meaningful incentive throughout the game.
The Jets are expected to get Geno Smith some work after he missed the opener, but New York also has uncertainty surrounding several offensive weapons.
The biggest thing for us is continuity. Pittsburgh knows Howard and Allar are carrying the night, while New York is likely to cycle deeper through its quarterback room.
Official Play: Steelers -1.5
Playable to: -2.5
Risk
If Geno Smith and the Jets' first unit play longer than expected and create an early lead, Pittsburgh could be chasing from behind with reserves.
But over four quarters, the Steelers' quarterback competition and the sharp market move are enough to clear the bar.
🟡 STRONG LEAN
Carolina Panthers -2.5 at Jacksonville Jaguars
Updated line: Carolina -2.5
Total: 37.5
Moneyline: Panthers -135 / Jaguars +114
Carolina also drew meaningful market support, moving from approximately -1 to -2.5.
Dave Canales has indicated that Bryce Young and Carolina's first offense should get closer to 15–20 plays, significantly more work than the nine snaps the starters received in their first preseason appearance. Most of the starting offensive group is expected to be alongside him.
Jacksonville sat its starters in the opener and has discussed getting some of them involved tonight, but the Jaguars have also been navigating a number of camp injuries and offensive-line shuffling.
I like Carolina.
I liked them more at -1.
At -2.5, enough value has already been absorbed that I'm stopping just below Official status.
Strong Lean: Panthers -2.5
🟡 LEAN
Denver Broncos -6 vs. Green Bay Packers
Line: Denver -6
Total: 40.5
Moneyline: Denver -245 / Green Bay +200
Both teams intend to give their starters meaningful preseason work.
Green Bay has said this will be the starters' final preseason tune-up, with Jordan Love and the first units expected to play before sitting out next week's finale.
Denver will also get its first preseason look at Bo Nix, who was deliberately held out of the opener and was scheduled to play against Green Bay.
I prefer Denver's overall preseason setup and Sean Payton has historically taken these games seriously.
But six points is a lot in an exhibition game where both clubs will eventually turn things over to backups.
Lean: Broncos -6
No Official Play at this number.
MLB
🟢 OFFICIAL PLAY
Detroit Tigers ML -108 at Kansas City Royals
This is the best baseball price on tonight's board.
Detroit starts Troy Melton, who enters 7–1 with a 1.49 ERA.
Kansas City counters with Noah Cameron, who is 7–8 with a 4.16 ERA.
We're being asked to lay essentially a pick'em price with the starter carrying the substantially stronger current profile.
Detroit is also 61–66 compared with Kansas City's 55–74 record.
This does not require us to lay -160 or -180 to exploit the pitching advantage.
Official Play: Tigers ML -108
Playable to: -120
🟡 STRONG LEAN
Tampa Bay Rays ML +111 at Baltimore Orioles
This is an interesting underdog spot.
Tampa Bay enters 76–51, while Baltimore is 61–67, yet the Rays are catching plus money.
The reason is the pitching matchup. Tampa's Freddy Peralta enters with a 5.27 ERA, while Baltimore's Trevor Rogers sits at 4.15.
So we're not pretending Tampa has every advantage.
But getting the significantly better overall club at +111 is enough to keep this high on the board.
Strong Lean: Rays +111
🟡 STRONG LEAN
Boston Red Sox ML -176 vs. San Francisco Giants
Boston has moved slightly from the earlier -177 to -176, while San Francisco is now +163.
The pitching matchup favors Boston:
Sonny Gray: 15–3, 2.65 ERA
Logan Webb: 8–7, 3.50 ERA.
Boston has also been swinging the bat well, hitting .271 with 13 home runs over its last 10 games, while San Francisco has hit only .219 over that span.
I like Boston to win.
I do not love laying -176.
Strong Lean: Red Sox ML -176
🟡 LEAN
Chicago White Sox ML -140 vs. New York Mets
Chicago's Sean Burke enters 7–6 with a 3.15 ERA, compared with Sean Manaea at 4–5 with a 4.22 ERA for New York. The White Sox also own the better overall record, 66–61 versus 58–70.
There is a legitimate Chicago case here.
The price simply isn't as attractive as Detroit's.
Lean: White Sox -140
🟡 LEAN
Arizona Diamondbacks ML -141 vs. Cincinnati Reds
Arizona gets Eduardo Rodriguez, who enters 12–4 with a 2.71 ERA, while Cincinnati starts Nick Lodolo at 3–2 with a 4.52 ERA.
That is a meaningful starting-pitching edge.
Lean: Arizona -141
🔴 PASS
Toronto Blue Jays at New York Yankees
The total has fallen to 7, which immediately tells us how heavily the market respects the pitching environment.
New York has Cam Schlittler, who enters 10–6 with a 2.19 ERA, while Toronto is opening with Mason Fluharty and is expected to piece together the game through its bullpen.
The Yankees are the side I prefer, but the moneyline is too expensive and the total has already been squeezed downward.
Pass.
🔴 PASS
Oakland Athletics at Houston Astros
Houston is the much heavier favorite, but the starting-pitching numbers don't justify blindly laying the price.
Oakland's J.T. Ginn enters with a 3.53 ERA, while Houston's Hayden Wesneski is at 5.16.
That is enough to keep us away from Houston at the current juice.
Pass.
🔴 PASS
Pittsburgh Pirates at Los Angeles Dodgers
Dodgers -230 / Pirates +212
Total: 8, Over -114
Yoshinobu Yamamoto gives Los Angeles the pitching edge with a 2.60 ERA against Bubba Chandler's 4.23, and the Dodgers are the superior team.
But -230 is not a price we're interested in laying.
Pass.
WNBA
🟢 OFFICIAL PLAY
Golden State Valkyries -6.5 at Chicago Sky
Spread: Valkyries -6.5
Total: 163.5
Moneyline: Golden State -270 / Chicago +220
Golden State enters 25–10.
Chicago enters 14–22.
That's significant separation, and unlike some double-digit WNBA spreads we've passed recently, we're laying only 6.5.
Chicago has been dealing with injury uncertainty, while Golden State has established itself as one of the league's strongest teams.
The Valkyries don't simply need to win. They need to create seven points of separation against a team they have been substantially better than across the season.
I think they do.
Official Play: Valkyries -6.5
Playable to: -7
🟡 LEAN
Minnesota Lynx -1.5 at Washington Mystics
Spread: Minnesota -1.5
Total: 165.5
Moneyline: Minnesota -122 / Washington +102
Normally getting the league's top team at basically a pick'em would be extremely attractive.
But Minnesota is expected to be without Napheesa Collier due to rest, while Washington comes in considerably healthier. Olivia Miles has also carried an ankle question.
That changes the equation.
Minnesota can absolutely still win, but this is not the normal version of the Lynx.
Lean: Lynx -1.5
🟢 OFFICIAL PLAY
Portland Fire -2.5 at Toronto Tempo
Spread: Portland -2.5
Total: 182.5
Moneyline: Portland -148 / Toronto +124
Portland enters 15–20, while Toronto is 10–25.
Toronto has also lost five straight home games entering this matchup.
We're not being asked to lay a giant road spread.
Portland needs only a three-point win against the weaker overall team.
Official Play: Fire -2.5
Playable to: -3.5

MARKET NOTE
The Steelers are the story of tonight's board.
Earlier, Pittsburgh was on the underdog side of the number.
By our final check:
Steelers -1.5
That is not a small adjustment in an NFL preseason market.
It lines up with what we already liked about Pittsburgh's quarterback setup: two young quarterbacks with something to prove and the full game available to compete for a roster role.
We don't blindly follow line movement.
But when the football reasoning and the market movement point in the same direction, we pay attention.
BANKROLL REMINDER
The tightened process is 11–10.
Four plays made tonight's cut.
That's the card.
