THE SQUARE TAX

DAILY TAX REPORT — SATURDAY NIGHT EDITION

August 29, 2026

The early card is already in motion. Now we turn to the Saturday night board.

The approach does not change because there are games everywhere: identify the best numbers, separate genuine edges from action bets, and keep the card tight.

🏈 COLLEGE FOOTBALL

🟡 VERY STRONG LEAN: Stanford -4.5 vs. Hawaii

This number has continued moving toward Stanford.

Brad Powers made Stanford approximately a six-point favorite on his own power ratings, and the market that was sitting closer to -3/-3.5 earlier is now broadly -4.5.

There are legitimate reasons for the support. Stanford returns more experience and gets Hawaii at home after losing 23-20 in Honolulu last season.

There are also reasons we are stopping short of Official. Hawaii brings back quarterback Micah Alejado, while Stanford is breaking in Davis Warren, and Stanford will be without starting left tackle Niki Prongos.

At -3.5 this was extremely attractive. At -4.5, some of the original value has already been consumed.

Classification: 🟡 VERY STRONG LEAN — Stanford -4.5

🟡 VERY STRONG LEAN: New Mexico State–Florida State Over 53.5

This was already on our radar before the morning research, and the number has held.

Florida State is laying roughly 31.5, meaning the market expects the Seminoles to do most of the scoring. That is perfectly acceptable for an Over in the mid-50s if New Mexico State can contribute.

The Aggies bring in Furman transfer Trey Hedden, who threw for 2,967 yards last season, and they return offensive coordinator David Yost. That gives New Mexico State more offensive upside than the enormous point spread might suggest.

Florida State should have ample opportunities to score, but there is enough disagreement in the total handicap — including legitimate Under arguments centered around a one-sided game — that we are not forcing this into Official status.

Classification: 🟡 VERY STRONG LEAN — Over 53.5

Memphis at UNLV — 10:00 p.m.

The market remains approximately UNLV -4/-4.5, with a total in the mid-50s.

Nothing on the refreshed screen gives us enough separation from the market to manufacture a position.

🏈 NFL PRESEASON

🟢 OFFICIAL PLAY: Tennessee Titans -1.5 vs. Chicago Bears

This is the final NFL preseason game on the board, and unlike many preseason finales, we have a meaningful coaching-intent angle.

Tennessee coach Robert Saleh has indicated that his young team needs repetitions and that the starters are scheduled for a substantial workload — more than 30 snaps. Chicago, meanwhile, had not committed to a comparable first-team workload entering Saturday.

Cam Ward is expected to start for Tennessee, and the Titans enter 2-0 in the preseason.

The market has also given us a better number than earlier in the week. Your refreshed board has Tennessee approximately -1.5, down from the -2.5 range seen elsewhere this morning.

That is enough.

Play: Tennessee -1.5
Playable through -2.

Classification: 🟢 OFFICIAL PLAY

⚾ MLB

🟡 STRONG LEAN: Milwaukee Brewers ML

Milwaukee owns baseball’s best record at 84-51, has won three straight and is 7-3 over its last ten. Texas enters on a three-game losing streak.

The hesitation is the starting-pitching matchup. Texas sends Cal Quantrill out with a 2.90 ERA, while Milwaukee counters with Shane Drohan at 3.84/3.85.

At roughly -155/-165, Milwaukee is clearly our preferred side, but not quite an Official Play.

🟡 STRONG LEAN: Brewers ML

🟡 STRONG LEAN: Philadelphia Phillies ML

This is the strongest pure starting-pitcher mismatch on the late MLB board.

Philadelphia sends Cristopher Sánchez — 16-4 with a 2.62 ERA — against Ryan Johnson, who enters 3-7 with a 5.75 ERA. Philadelphia is priced around -220 to -235.

Our historical approach says dominant starting pitching should not automatically be discarded because the moneyline is expensive.

Still, with football carrying the night card and Philadelphia priced above -200, we do not need another Official Play simply for volume.

🟡 STRONG LEAN: Phillies ML

Red Sox at Yankees — 7:15 p.m.

New York won the opener 1-0 Friday and the Saturday market is roughly Yankees -125/-135.

There is no reason to chase yesterday’s winner into another position without a larger pitching or market edge.

Diamondbacks at Giants — 10:05 p.m.

Near pick’em pricing and no meaningful separation.

🔴 PASS

Orioles at Athletics — 10:05 p.m.

Oakland is favored approximately -130/-145. Nothing here clears our threshold.

🏀 WNBA

Toronto Tempo at Phoenix Mercury — 10:00 p.m.

Phoenix is laying approximately 8.5 to 9.5, but neither team enters in convincing form. Toronto is coming off a 93-73 loss Friday night in Las Vegas, while Phoenix has also been sliding and entered Saturday with injury uncertainty involving important players.

There is no reason to lay close to double digits in this setup.

We already put four Official college football positions onto the early card. The night edition does not need another pile of wagers simply because there are games available.
