Two winning free selections to open November. Gonzaga Under 155.5 got us started, and Drexel +31.5 followed with a cover against Virginia.

Tonight brings a crowded college basketball board, a full NHL slate, two NBA matchups, and Thursday night college football.

We're looking for value, not action for the sake of action.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL — OPENING-WEEK MARKET WATCH

Bryant at Quinnipiac

7 PM ET | Quinnipiac −6.5 | Total 148.5

One of the more manageable spreads on a board loaded with enormous favorites.

The key question is how quickly these programs establish their offensive rhythm and whether Quinnipiac can create enough separation to justify laying multiple possessions.

Verdict: PASS

Vermont at Fairfield

7 PM ET | Fairfield approximately −1.5 | Total 139.5

A nearly even matchup with one of the lower totals among tonight's college games.

When the expected scoring is modest, individual possessions carry greater weight. This is a game worth monitoring for defensive efficiency and tempo.

Verdict: PASS

Hofstra at Princeton

7 PM ET | Princeton approximately −2.5 | Total 137.5

This is another intriguing low-total matchup.

Princeton's reputation for structured offense makes pace an important part of the handicap, but opening-week roster changes make assumptions based on previous seasons dangerous.

Verdict: PASS

Toledo at Michigan State

8 PM ET | Michigan State −26.5 | Total 154.5

Another enormous favorite.

Michigan State has the home-court advantage and a clear market edge, but covering 26.5 requires sustained separation.

We want to learn more about both teams' rotations before trusting a spread this large.

Verdict: PASS

Coastal Carolina at Duke

8 PM ET | Duke approximately −40.5

Forty points is a staggering number.

Duke may dominate the matchup, but a spread this large introduces major late-game uncertainty. Bench rotations and second-half intensity can matter more than the final winner.

Verdict: PASS

NHL — THURSDAY'S KEY MATCHUPS

Utah Mammoth at Montreal Canadiens

7 PM ET | Montreal approximately −120 | Total 6.5

A relatively competitive moneyline makes this an interesting game to evaluate.

At 6.5, the total requires seven goals to cash an Over. Goaltending and special-teams execution will be critical.

Verdict: PASS

Vegas Golden Knights at Detroit Red Wings

7 PM ET | Detroit approximately −140 | Total 6.5

Detroit is favored at home, but the price deserves scrutiny against a Vegas team capable of generating offense.

The total also offers a useful comparison between market expectations and the clubs' defensive performances.

Verdict: PASS

St. Louis Blues at New Jersey Devils

7 PM ET | New Jersey approximately −230 | Total 5.5–6.5

The Devils are substantial favorites.

The more interesting market question may be the total, where sportsbook numbers differ significantly. A 5.5 total is a very different proposition from 6.5.

Verdict: PASS

Chicago Blackhawks at Tampa Bay Lightning

7 PM ET | Tampa Bay approximately −450 | Total 6.5

Tampa Bay is one of the largest favorites on the board.

But a heavily favored team isn't necessarily a valuable bet. The moneyline demands an extremely high win probability to justify its price.

Verdict: PASS

Anaheim Ducks at Edmonton Oilers

8 PM ET | Edmonton approximately −190 | Total 6.5

Edmonton's offensive talent makes this matchup worth following, particularly from a totals perspective.

But we need confidence in goaltending and defensive execution before recommending an Over.

Verdict: PASS

NBA — TWO LATE GAMES

Orlando Magic at Phoenix Suns

9 PM ET | Phoenix approximately −1.5 | Total 222.5

A short home-favorite spread suggests the market expects a competitive game.

This is a matchup where late injury information and confirmed rotations could make a meaningful difference.

Verdict: PASS

Miami Heat at Golden State Warriors

10 PM ET | Golden State approximately −3.5 | Total 235.5

The total is the first number that catches our attention.

At 235.5, the market expects a high-scoring contest. Both teams need to contribute offensively for the Over to have a realistic path.

Miami is also playing again Friday, adding another scheduling consideration for tonight's rotations.

Verdict: PASS

COLLEGE FOOTBALL — THURSDAY NIGHT

UTSA at Florida Atlantic

7:30 PM ET | UTSA approximately −7.5 | Total 72.5

A projected high-scoring game.

With a total of 72.5, the market expects both offenses to produce. That can create opportunities, but it also leaves little room for stalled drives and red-zone failures.

Verdict: PASS

James Madison at Southern Miss

8 PM ET | James Madison approximately −14 | Total 57.5

James Madison is the clear road favorite.

The question is whether the favorite can establish enough control to cover two touchdowns, particularly if Southern Miss manages to shorten the game.

Verdict: PASS
