November has started exactly the way we wanted at The Square Tax.

Monday's Gonzaga Under delivered our first winner. Tuesday, Drexel +31.5 survived Virginia's second-half push and covered in an 89–60 loss.

NOVEMBER FREE PLAY RECORD: 2–0

Tonight, we're doing something equally important: passing on the betting card.

There are several interesting matchups, but interesting doesn't necessarily mean profitable. Here's what caught our attention.

NBA — THREE NUMBERS WORTH QUESTIONING

Cleveland Cavaliers at Oklahoma City Thunder

8 PM ET | Oklahoma City −3.5

These teams just met Monday in Cleveland, with Oklahoma City winning 117–112.

Now the rematch shifts to Oklahoma City, where the Thunder are laying just 3.5 points.

At first glance, that looks like a surprisingly short home-favorite number.

But there's more to the story.

Oklahoma City has significant injury concerns, including absences involving Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, and Cason Wallace. Cleveland also has personnel issues.

The Cavaliers get an immediate opportunity to adjust after Monday's defeat.

Our assessment: The number deserves attention, but the injury uncertainty makes this a difficult spot to price confidently.

Verdict: PASS

Los Angeles Lakers at Sacramento Kings

10 PM ET | Lakers −12.5

Twelve and a half points is a substantial spread for a road favorite.

The Lakers are coming off Monday's 138–117 victory over Miami. They did not play Tuesday, so this is not a back-to-back situation.

Sacramento has struggled, but the Kings also defeated Dallas 115–100 on Monday.

The handicap centers on whether Los Angeles can sustain a double-digit advantage through four quarters.

Even a comfortable Lakers victory might not be enough to cover this number.

Late-game substitutions and a potential Sacramento scoring run make the underdog interesting.

Our assessment: Sacramento has some appeal with the points, but not enough for an official recommendation.

Verdict: PASS

Chicago Bulls at New York Knicks

7:30 PM ET | Knicks −12.5

Another sizable NBA spread.

New York has the home-court advantage, but laying 12.5 points creates little margin for a late scoring run by the underdog.

The Knicks could control most of the game and still fail to cover.

Without a compelling matchup or personnel advantage beyond what the market already reflects, we're staying away.

Verdict: PASS

COLLEGE FOOTBALL — THE BATTLE OF THE MICHIGANS

Central Michigan Chippewas at Eastern Michigan Eagles

7:30 PM ET | Eastern Michigan −2.5 | Total 47.5

This is one of the more interesting totals on Wednesday's board.

Eastern Michigan has shown a consistent tendency toward lower-scoring games, with seven of its first nine finishing Under.

Central Michigan has also struggled to find consistent offensive production.

Both programs enter this matchup needing a strong finish to the season.

The total is especially interesting because some market listings have been substantially lower than 47.5.

That difference matters. A total of 47.5 offers considerably more room than 44.5.

Weather and offensive execution could also play roles in determining the scoring environment.

Our assessment: The Under deserves consideration, but we're not forcing a selection based solely on historical trends.

Verdict: PASS

Toledo Rockets at Sacramento State Hornets

7 PM ET | Toledo approximately −25 to −27.5

A large road-favorite spread, with meaningful differences between sportsbooks.

The key question is whether Toledo can establish enough offensive separation to justify laying more than three touchdowns.

At these prices, a late score can completely change the outcome against the spread.

Verdict: PASS

Ball State at Massachusetts

7 PM ET | Massachusetts −2.5 | Total 48.5

A relatively short spread and modest total suggest a competitive matchup.

Rather than manufacture an edge in a game with limited separation between the teams, we'll watch how both offenses perform.

Verdict: PASS

COLLEGE BASKETBALL — EARLY-SEASON CAUTION

Opening week presents opportunities, but also uncertainty.

Transfers, freshmen, coaching changes, and unfamiliar rotations can make last season's statistics misleading.

Southeastern Louisiana at Auburn

8 PM ET | Auburn approximately −29.5

Auburn is a substantial home favorite.

The question isn't whether Auburn has the talent advantage. It's whether that advantage justifies nearly 30 points.

Late-game rotations and the possibility of Southeastern Louisiana slowing possessions are important considerations.

Verdict: PASS

Fairleigh Dickinson at Butler

7 PM ET | Butler approximately −27.5

Another enormous spread.

Butler's ability to create separation is one issue; maintaining that margin after substitutions is another.

We'll use this game to evaluate early-season rotations and tempo rather than force a wager.

Verdict: PASS

Northern Kentucky at South Dakota

8 PM ET | Northern Kentucky approximately −2.5

This is a more competitive number than many of the major-conference mismatches on tonight's board.

It offers an opportunity to evaluate two programs without the uncertainty of a 30-point spread.

Still, opening-week personnel questions make patience worthwhile.

Verdict: PASS

NHL — WEDNESDAY NIGHT WATCHLIST

Ottawa Senators at Buffalo Sabres

7:30 PM ET | Total 6.5

A divisional matchup where goaltending, special teams, and defensive discipline could determine whether the game reaches seven goals.

Verdict: PASS

Chicago Blackhawks at Florida Panthers

7:30 PM ET | Florida heavily favored | Total 5.5–6.5

Florida is the clear favorite, but the total varies considerably across sportsbooks.

A one-goal difference in the posted total can completely change the value of a wager.

Rather than chase an inconsistent market, we're staying out.

Verdict: PASS

Calgary Flames at Seattle Kraken

10 PM ET | Seattle approximately −130 | Total 6.5

Seattle has a modest home-favorite price.

The matchup deserves attention from a totals perspective, but starting goaltenders and lineup availability remain important.

Verdict: PASS

San Jose Sharks at Los Angeles Kings

10 PM ET | Los Angeles approximately −165 | Total 6.5

Los Angeles has the market advantage, but the favorite's price already reflects that expectation.

Without a stronger edge on either the moneyline or total, we're passing.

Verdict: PASS
